Technique: Supplementary weft, handspun cotton
Design: A large ceremonial ship and a house with projecting roofs shelters a ceremonial procession including a couple under a ceremonial umbrella. The second tier of the design has large and small elephants and horses in mirrored format above which are large birds with figures sitting on a boat. Birds with large tails fill the side spaces. The dominant image of the ship is a symbol of conveyance and protection during life's transitions when the mind and body are particularly vulnerable.
Tampan were used to designate a sacred space and to protect it from evil spirits. In this context, they were sat upon by the aristocracy and priests at important ceremonies, and also bridal couples. They were placed over important ceremonial gifts as well as at a sacred place in the house
